EXTERIOR FINISHING
At Skydale Contracting, we specialize in building envelope repairs and upgrades, ensuring that your home is protected from the elements. This includes siding, trim, exterior insulation, rain screen and building membranes.
WINDOWS & DOORS
Proper window and door installation requires attention to detail when prepping the opening to ensure the air barrier, vapour barrier, and weather barriers are maintained, and that proper lap systems with the flashing, siding and trim are used. We have the building envelope expertise to ensure an optimal install.
STAIRS
Our custom stair designs shed water instead of trapping it in the seams and joints. They last for decades instead of years.
DECKS
Like our stairs, we build decks such that water doesn't get into the seams and joints so they last for decades.

CUSTOM ARBOURS & TRELLISES
Garden structures such as arbours and trellises take a beating from the elements and often have to support the weight of heavy vines. We build strong, rot resistant structures designed to withstand these stresses.
FENCES & GATES
Commerically available fence panels are designed in such a way that they trap water which promotes rot. The fence posts rot away at ground level from exposure to the combination of water and dirt. At Skydale, we have developed fence designs that shed water instead of trapping it and we have techniques to prevent the posts from rotting. We also have our own unique methods for building gates that don't sag over time.
The gates, fence and arbour in this photo are seventeen years old. There is no sagging or rot anywhere. The paint is original.
RETAINING WALLS
Whether its concrete, stacked blocks, stone ortimber you desire, we build retaining walls that are strong and look great.
STRUCTURAL REPAIR
We also offer structural repair and upgrades. We are especially skilled at providing rot remediation and have developed techniques to minimise the amount of demolition required.

We have extensive experience with basement foundation replacements, underpinning, concrete repair and stopping water ingress.

RAINWATER HARVESTING
Alberta is dry and the soil is highly permeable. Homeowners pay for water. Keeping your garden green can get expensive. Collecting, storing and distributing the rain that falls on your property as well as reducing run off and increasing the soil's ability to retain moisture can significantly reduce your municipal water usage. The rainwater will also be free of chlorine and minerals like calcium, which is better for the plants and give the option do grow organic fruits and vegetables.

NET ZERO
There is a lot of buzz around building Net Zero. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of misinformation and gaps in building science knowledge. For example, buildings move from the effects of wind, seismic events and even heavy traffic. The technical term is "storey drift". Over time, this storey drift causes tears in the building envelope. So high energy efficiency houses become less efficient over time and mould can develop in the walls as moist air from inside travels through the envelope tears.

We know how to account for storey drift in our building envelope design to prevent these problems. We project managed the build of a prototype net zero house build that exceeded Net Zero standards.
PLAYHOUSES & TREE HOUSES
We love whimsy! Tell us your fantasy and we will build it.

This playhouse is modular. It can be dismantled into sections and moved. It is now at its third home with the same family! The boy in the picture is a young man, and plans to pass it on to his kids.
